Statement
How can I present women enduring a patriarchal society throughout time, and the things that have been engraved into us overtime?
What suffering and pain can women endure? What did women have to do to slowly escape imprisonment? How can one get to be the perfect woman? What does society make women feel about their looks and bodies? How were women silenced through history? How can women come together to make their freedom reality? How can a woman gain back control over the disadvantages handed over to her? After years of enduring, how are we changing as women and going against the patriarchy?
Time has been a major focus for my works, how some time periods really influence the way women were subjected to stereo types, as well as the idea of how we have been working together for generations to rid ourselves of these outdated and harmful ideas about women. In most of my pieces is the idea that women comply, but it is not to subject us to the ideology, it is to survive and make it out in the end, and to help bring their daughters to someday never be put in those positions. With this there is an understanding that the amount of pain and suffering that we receive, and take does not truly define us, and that we amount to much more than the surface level of abuse and hate we have accumulated. All of this is shown through mark making and color to represent the feelings of what it is like to be a woman, while also having symbolisms hidden into each piece to project more layers of being a woman than surface level ideas.
